About our Guest Speaker:

Steve Siebold, CSP was a prodigy on the National Junior Tennis Tour from 1971-1982, capturing 57 singles and doubles titles. Steve went on to play NCAA Division 1 Tennis, and was drafted by Yugoslavia to compete on the European Club Tennis Tour. Steve played professionally for two years and was ranked among the top 500 players in the world. Known as a fierce but fair competitor, Siebold eventually realized that Mental Toughness was what separated the good from the great, and set out to discover the secrets of champions.

In 1987, Steve became a nationally recognized coach of top junior tennis players specializing in Mental Toughness Training. Siebold's players went on to receive scholarships at schools such as Duke, Florida State, and William and Mary. Three of his players competed on the professional tour.

As an entrepreneur, Steve and partners have developed two companies from the ground up that have produced millions of dollars in business around the world.

In 1996, Steve partnered with Bill Gove, the Father of Professional Speaking, to form the Gove-Siebold Group, Inc. From 1996 until December of 2001, they spoke to approximately 30,000 people across the world on topics such as Mental Toughness, Public Speaking, and Telephone Prospecting. Gove-Siebold Group's video and audio programs have been sold in 30 countries around the world.

Steve conducts over 600 teleconferencing seminars per year, and approximately 60 live speeches/seminars.

Steve Siebold is a professional member of the National Speakers Association, and received the prestigious CSP designation in January, 2003. The CSP is only held by 7% of speakers nationwide and represents both platform excellence and business success.

In December 2001, Steve was appointed to the National Charity Awards Dinner Committee, Chaired by President George W. Bush. Other committee members included Merv Griffin, Pat Boone, and Doug Wead.

Feb. 3-5, 2012 - 2012 NSA Winter Conference - Dallas/Plano Marriott

The simple truth is that it’s become increasingly difficult to make real money if you’re just a keynoter, or just a coach or just a trainer. What’s needed today is an integrated business–a business that incorporates several income streams, several ways to “Monetize Your Message.”

The 2012 NSA Winter Conference has been created with one goal in mind: to help you monetize your message. We want to help you build a well-rounded practice–one that can withstand the periodic ups and downs that are inherent in our industry. When you leave this conference, you will know–specifically–how to turn your expertise into systems, products and services that will add to your bottom line…and peace of mind! (nsawinterconference.org/)

If you are [even] just thinking about going, would you let Kevin McNulty (kevin@humadyn.com) know? He will gather/share list for those who might be seeking room-mate or wish to travel together.

January 25th

A Message From Your Chapter President:

As a NSA member, you should know what's going on at NSA Tennessee.

In the last 30 days or so, I have had an inquiry from a speaker's bureau and 3 contacts from event planners asking my opinion for speakers on our website. We are also averaging well over 2,500 website visits each month.

  • We placed a full-page color ad in the Mississippi Association of Society Executives quarterly publication in December and that was followed by an email blast piece that they sent out again in January to all of their members.
  • We joined the TN chapter of MPI (Meetings Planners International) and through October 2012, any NSAT membermay attend any of their events at the member’s rate.
  • We created a full-color pictorial directory of all NSAT members and distributed it at the "Mind Your Meetings" expo in Memphis this past November.   We will be updating that piece soon to be sent out to our new MPI contacts andseveral others.  (Members as of 1/31/12 are guaranteed to be included.  The next update won't be until at least May.)
  • Our workshop presenters at chapter meetings:

-  November 2011 speaker was Dan Janal of PR LEADS

-  January 2012 speaker was Ed Rigsbee, CSP

-  March 2012 speaker will be Steve Siebold

(We now have chapter meetings every-other-month in Nashville.)

This just starts the list of benefits as a member of NSAT.   You can see the extended list of member benefits and join out chapter from our website at http://www.nsatennessee.com/.  As a NSA national member, the chapter dues are as low as $125 a year… uh, that's about $10 a month.

FYI, our membership is made up of about 50% national members and 50% candidate members.  (All national members are listed on our website, so feel free to check which of your colleagues are hanging out with us :). We are sensitive to the needs of both groups and I am certain you feel well respected and represented with our programming and exclusive national member's only benefits.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything, please feel free to contact me.

Wishing you all the best and great success in 2012!

A special "State of the Chapter" message from your president:

Dear NSAT,

It's official, NSAT is an awesome chapter!

First, let me say what a great chapter meeting we had on Monday!  Not only was the event practically "standing room only", Ed Rigsbee, CSP was so generous in sharing his insight and very detailed information about how to get "in" to speak to associations.  Knowing this information and following-through could literally add thousands of dollars to your bottom-line!

In addition, we were delighted to welcome and meet 10 guests for this event!

The success of the meeting Monday was a team effort.  Thank you to Greg Maciolek for handling all of the registration, Kevin McNulty for help with meeting promotion and meeting "management" on Monday; thank you to Kay Wilkes for taking care of the lunch orders and Steve Suggs being our designated greeter!

We are certainly pumped and poised for a spectacular 2012 and I can't wait for us all to be able to share and celebrate many new success!

With that said, allow me to share with you the progress and successes we have made since July:

  • We have added 15 new chapter members!
  • We have significantly improved our NSAT website including its message, updates, member resources, SEO and so much more.  Our website is also now attracting more and more people that are looking to hire speakers!
  • We have greatly enhanced both member and candidate membership benefits yet have kept the cost very affordable (some options as low as $10 a month!)
  • We have partnered with TN MPI (Meeting Professionals International) and had a booth at their "Mind Your Meetings" event in November where we distributed a full-color NSAT speaker directory to attendees of this event.
  • We placed a great-looking, full-page ad in MSAE Connections magazine/newsletter.  This publication is distributed to hundreds of association executives throughout MS and surrounding areas.
  • We started having NSAT "Regional" events!   We now offer learning and networking events throughout the state (Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville) so our members in these areas can have a consistent, local opportunity to connect, mastermind, etc.  It's also proven to be a great opportunity to introduce and re-introduce potential and former members to the benefits of hanging out with fellow NSAT'rs.
  • We have become more consistent with messages, notices and information through timely email messages.
  • Our state chapter meetings now have an extended format AND include lunch!
  • We have created an informative and handy new Guest/New Member welcome packet.
  • We now have a "members only" NSAT LinkedIn group.
  • We have started offering free (to members) "Tech-Talk" and "Business-Builder" webinars.  Just dial-in and learn!

Isn't it fun to be a part of a growing team?  Who do you know that could benefit from NSAT membership?  Let them know what NSAT has to offer!

See you on March 17th in Nashville!

Your NSAT Chapter President,

Kimberly Medlock

P.S. Feel free to email me with your suggestions, questions or comments - kimberly@kimberlymedlock.com.

Come join us for the NSAT Knoxville Regional Meeting on Monday, February 13 from 5-7pm at the IMR Training Facility: 215 Center Park Dr - Suite 1600
Knoxville, TN.

When Dave was asked about his interest and availablity for a special visit with the Knoxville Regional group his immediate reply was "yes" ... well here is what he actually said.

"Thank you for all that you are doing. (Speakers need their NSA chapters!) When things get tough, the two things that Corporate America and Associations cut is Training and Marketing, the two areas they should focus on even more.  Apple Computer is an excellent example of what investing in an organization's greatest national resource, their people, will do." Leaders often say 'What if I train my people and they leave?'  To which we should respond 'What if you don't train them and they stay?'  It would be very pleasing to meet with the Knoxville group and hopefully yourself.  NSA was founded by Cavett Robert and the Spirit of Cavett must continue.  He always said 'We area caring, sharing, giving, loving organization.  The bigger the pie, the bigger the piece.'"

I will look forward to it.

Reporting out: Nashville / Memphis regional events -

We had a couple of terrific regional events...but instead of me reporting about it, let's hear from those who attended:

Message from member David Dow after attending the 12/12 Memphis Regional event: "

Kimberly, I don’t know about you but Melissa (my wife) and I have a bunch of friends that are either retired (several retired at young ages), work at big banks, big law firms, etc. I am not knocking early retirement, big banks, or big law firms, but there’s a difference when you are around successful entrepreneurs (trainers) that have to create and deliver a product every day, to earn a living. For lack of a better word, there’s an “electricity” in the air, which is invigorating."

Message from member Ruth Williams after attending the 12/12 Nashville Regional event:

"We had a delightful gathering today in Franklin with Gary Minor. I love the way things are being structured now. Thank you!"

---

Welcome Newest Chapter Members - We are SO happy to welcome two new candidate members:

Yolanda Harris-Jackson

Vicki Perfect

It's terrific to see our membership growing...let's keep this going!  Do you know of someone that could benefit from NSAT membership and programs?  Invite them in!

---

A Note from Kevin McNulty - As President-Elect, I had the privilege of attending Camp NSA in November--which is essentially a leaderhip and management retreat. To spell out all the nuggetts I picked up during this 2.5 day event--well there's not enough space in this e-letter. I'll just offer a few loose thoughts:

1) I became acutely aware of the enormity of the job of a chapter president and that of the board. I certainly have gained more appreciation for the hard work and dedication on the part of Kimberly, our current president. Be sure to send her a note of your appreciation.

2) Many chapters are struggling--be it a sign of the time or whatever, we must figure out how to not just survive, but thrive (even in down times). But to do that we need a lot of brain-power and boots on the ground. If you'd be willing to play even a small part, would you let me know?

3) We're only half way though Kimberly's term, so there's a lot to accomplish in terms of her agenda, but I've begun thinking about the way forward, a vision of sorts for the 2012/13 season.

More to come...
